JB Foerster’s Beautiful Wind Quintet

I love to hear a new classical music composer [for me] that I did not know about and check out that composer’s music. That happened today, Saturday, June 24, on my morning walk in the mall as I was listening to All Classical Portland, on “Tune In Radio“, on my Headphones. The composer was, Josef Bohuslav Foerster, a Czech composer [born in Prague] often referred to as, J. B. Foerster. The piece they played was a chamber work, his Wind Quintet in D Major. What a beautiful and pleasant, soothing piece of music! I loved it.

This on J.B. Foerster-Wikipedia: ” His ancestors were of Bohemian German ethnicity, but had assimilated into the Czech community. The family normally lived in Prague and was musical. His father, a composer also named Josef Foerster, taught at the Conservatory.”

“His compositions include five symphonies, … a symphonic poem based on Cyrano de Bergerac, much chamber music (including five string quartets; three piano trios, two violin and two cello sonatas, and a several-times-recorded wind quintet), at least five operas (notably Eva), and concertos for cello and violin.”

J. B. Foerster was also a musicologist and a music critic.

Unlike many composers, Josef Bohusla Foerster lived a very long life, 91 years, from December 30, 1859 – May 29, 1951.

Please turn up the volume and enjoy this beautiful Wind Quintet I heard on my walk, and a few of other nice pieces from the Czech composer, J.B. Foerster.
